The monthly Dr Bike workshop is run by Inclusive Pedals at their storage containers in the Queen’s Park north car park (the one near the demolished sports centre, where the miniature railway crosses the car park). The four mechanics are all Cycle Chesterfield members.
The workshop is open on the 1st Saturday of the month March to October inclusive between 9.30am and 1.00pm.
The workshops can be busy and work on a first come, first served basis.
With funding from Cycling UK all repairs are free. Checks and adjustments are easily carried out and most of the repairs are to brakes (cables and blocks) and adjusting gears.
Stocks of commonly used spares are held but they will happily fit new parts that you bring along too.
Usual stock:
- Brake and gear cables (inner and outer)
- Brake blocks (not disc pads, too many varieties!)
- V brake arms
- Brake levers
- Inner tubes (12″, 16″, 20″, 24″, 26″, 700)
- Grips (fairly basic)
- Pedals (fairly basic plastic)
- Chains (1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 speed)
Wheel trueing so that it doesn’t ‘bind’ on the brakes can be done and there are often second hand parts such as mudguards, saddles etc.
Cash donations are always welcome to expand the range of tools and spares. Inclusive Pedals also run a monthly workshop all year round in the pavilion at Langer Field (near Derby Road/Langer Lane) on the 1st Wednesday of the month 4.00pm-6.00pm. They accept bike donations at both workshops and refurbished bikes are available from the Langer Field workshop.
Further to that, they run monthly workshops at Hollingwood Hub on the second sunday of the month during summer, midday to three.
