Station bike theft data

New data has just been published about bike thefts at all network rail stations. Chesterfield is the 318th busiest station on the network with an annual footfall of 1,859,258. 80 bike parking spaces with 13 bike thefts over the last 3 years reported. 3 in 2016/17, 5 in 2017/18 and 5 in 2018/19.

Occasional research by Campaign members suggests there are between 25 and 35 bikes regular parked at the station on a weekday with more than that being taken on and off trains. A very rough calculation suggests about 1 in 50 people are travelling to or from the station by bike.
