Cycle Chesterfield is a local community organisation whose main is aim to promote and encourage cycling opportunities for the benefit of all in and around Chesterfield. Cycle Chesterfield also work with partners to develop the cycle infrastructure in and around the town and to show that cycling is a viable and sustainable form of local transport.
Cycle Chesterfield are advised by local councils of planning applications and for larger developments brief details at the pre planning stage. We then comment on planning applications (see recent responses here). We are also consulted by Derbyshire County Councils Highways department to comment on proposed highway enhancement schemes which often include cycle infrastructure.
Cycle Chesterfield seek to showcase safe routes around Chesterfield and opportunities for cycling through the hosting of regular local rides. We also organise an annual summer cycling festival where we have rides for all abilities as well as social events and talks
Cycle Chesterfield’s business and ideas are discussed at our monthly meetings. The meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month either via zoom or in person at Chesterfield Library
Our goal is to have a comprehensive network of good quality safe cycle routes linked together to enable local journeys to be easily undertaken by bike by as many people as possible.
Cycle Chesterfield are also responsible for producing the local definitive cycle map for the town and surrounding areas. A new version of the map was launched in June 2024 and is available free to members and at local events. The publication of the latest map was supported and part funded by Chesterfield Borough Council and Cycling UK.
